Twenty percent is the percentage of foreclosures that are vacated by the homeowner before a foreclosure date is set. According to a new RealtyTrac report, 167,680 properties presently in foreclosure have been abandoned by their owner, which represents 20 percent of all foreclosures[1]. These properties often contribute to neighborhood blight and, says RealtyTrac vice president Daren Blomquist, are “hampering a smooth recovery” in the housing market.
