8 out of every 10 Americans believe that owning a home is a good financial decision. This is an improvement over 2011, when 72 percent of Americans believed that owning a home was a good financial decision. According to the same National Association of Realtors (NAR) survey, more than a third (36 percent) of renters intend to buy a home compared to 25 percent in 2011. Overall, 79 percent of renters say that owning is a “priority in general”[1].
